Three Lancaster University Management School subjects are ranked in the top 10 in the UK in the latest national league table from the Guardian – driven by the success of LUMS graduates.

Accounting and Finance (7th), Business and Management (9th), and Marketing (10th), are recognised as being among the elite for UK business education in the standings.

In addition, the Lancaster Economics department climbed a massive19 places to 12th in the UK overall.

All LUMS subjects are ranked in the top 15 for employability, based on students’ careers 15 months after graduation. Accounting and Finance is fourth in the UK and economics ninth – both with 94% of students in employment, with Marketing eighth and Business and Management 13th.

LUMS Executive Dean, Professor Claire Leitch, said: “These results are fabulous for LUMS, and demonstrate we are among the best business and management schools in the UK. Our students benefit greatly from their time here in Lancaster, and the employability results are particularly pleasing for us, showing the impact our degrees have beyond the time when our students graduate.”

The LUMS results complement a successful rankings for Lancaster University overall. Lancaster maintained its place as 11th out of 122 UK Universities – once again taking the top spot in the North West of England.

Sixteen subject areas at Lancaster ranked in the top 10 in the UK, with four in the top five.

At the same time, Lancaster has been labelled “one to watch” in a special feature by the Guardian, celebrating three “rising stars” of this year’s guide. Lancaster has been recognised for its graduate outcomes and for the support it gives to students, as well as its consistently high placing for more than a decade.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Schofield said: “We are delighted to have been recognised once again among the best in the UK, and to have remained the top university in the North West. We have again performed particularly well in the ‘satisfied with teaching’ and ‘continuation’ categories, which is testament to the quality of student experience here, and to the support we provide for students to transition into the next stages of their degree.

“We are very proud that the Guardian chose to highlight the value of a Lancaster degree in their reporting.”

Lancaster University is in the top ten in The Complete University Guide 2025 and consistently placed in the top 15 in the major UK league tables. The University also ranks highly in international league tables such as the QS World Rankings.
