Abstract: Neuroscience has made tremendous progress over the last few decades identifying how we make decisions. I will argue that this is provides a new microeconomic model that has real-world consequences. In this talk, I will first review what is known about decision-making and the new "neuroeconomic" framework and then I will present several cases in which that new framework has direct consequences for real-world policy decisions. I will provide neuroscientific explanations for behavioral economic phenomena, with policy implications that can create better, more trusting societies, including a new explanation for the success of microfinance institutions.
