Members of Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) joined partners from across the globe to celebrate the 50th anniversary of an important business school network.

The International Partnership of Business Schools (IPBS) is a group of universities around the world, specialising in double-degree (DD) experiences. The degrees involve students studying in two countries, promoting language and cultural fluency along with business aptitude.

Network members meet twice a year, and the recent Fall Meeting in Reutlingen, Germany, celebrated IPBS’s 50th anniversary. Alison Currie, LUMS Undergraduate Programmes Officer; Anna Galindo, BSc International Business Management (IBM) Programme Director; and Dr Beatriz Rodriguez Garcia, IBM Deputy Programme Director, attended to represent Lancaster.

LUMS received a commemorative award to celebrate the anniversary of the network. It was presented (see picture below) by Sergio Picazo Vela, and Manuel Francisco Suarez Barraza, Dean and Programme Director respectively, from Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP). Lancaster has worked in partnership with them through IPBS since 2016, and they highlighted the strength of the links within the network and how LUMS is a valuable partner for them.

“It was an honour for us to collect the commemorative award from IPBS,” said Anna Galindo. “This is such a brilliant partnership for Lancaster and our students. It gives them invaluable opportunities to benefit from studying in diverse cultures, gaining new perspectives that can only benefit them when the graduate into the global world of business.”

LUMS is the only UK member of IPBS and has been part of the network for 28 years, delivering the BSc International Business Management programme in partnership with business schools in Mexico (UDLAP), Canada (Brock University – Goodman Business School), Spain (ICADE), Germany (ESB Business School at Reutlingen University), Italy (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Piacenza) and France (NEOMA).

Speaking at the event, Irena Gaul, General Secretary for IPBS, said: “We enjoyed hosting this milestone event and we cherished our time together sharing ideas, working on improving our DD programmes, building stronger connections and celebrating our great network.”
