Honorary Doctorate for Pentland Centre Director

A Finnish University is to convey its highest honour on Professor Jan Bebbington, Director of the Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business.
Professor Bebbington is to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Tampere University in recognition of her work in the field of social and environmental accounting and the integration of sustainability into accounting scholarship and practice.
She is one of three people nominated by Tampere’s ’s faculty of Business and Management, alongside former banking professional Ari Kaperi, and Mayor of Tampere and ex-Finnish Elite League ice hockey CEO Kalervo Kummola.
“It is a great honour to be awarded an honorary doctorate by Tampere University,” said Professor Bebbington, who holds the Rubin Chair in Sustainability in Business in Lancaster University Management School. “I have worked alongside Professor Matias Laine and his colleagues from Tampere in the past, and know how important sustainability is to the University, so being recognised for my work in this area is meaningful.”
In total, 13 honorary doctorates will be awarded at ceremonies between June 6 and 8.
A statement from Tampere said:“The title of Honorary Doctor is the highest recognition that a university can award. [Our] faculties have invited individuals from Finland and abroad to become honorary doctors based on achievements in the fields represented at the University or on other outstanding scientific, artistic, or societal merits.”
