Dr Stowell received the honour in recognition of her work to develop the WBCSD Bootcamp module which allows students to attend the organisation’s international meetings, work as meeting hosts and note-takers, giving the 49 LUMS students who have already taken part a great start to their business careers. This student-hosting role has become a vital ingredient to the success of their world-class meetings.

In addition, she has represented WBCSD Education at meetings focused on curriculum and skill development for future talent, and played an integral role, with CETAD, in finding a solution to offer their flagship Executive Leadership programme participants a means to gain a postgraduate certification.

According to Professor Rodney Irwin, Managing Director at WBCSD (and LUMS honorary teaching fellow): “WBCSD wants to acknowledge Alison for all the work she has done since December 2015 in support of education at WBCSD and the innovative way she brings WBCSD and Sustainability to life at Lancaster.”

Dr Stowell said: “This came as a complete surprise. I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to have received this award.  Working with the WBCSD Education and Events team is incredible and our students and myself gain so much from these experiences.  I feel humbled by the honour as my award is a reflection of the support we have at the University and amazing colleagues.”

Professor Gail Whiteman, from the Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business, with whom Dr Stowell had worked on the WBCSD visits, said: “WBCSD is a very demanding partner, and it is clear that Alison has outperformed even their high expectations.”
