Professor Robert Fildes presents annual Beale Lecture

Distinguished Professor Robert Fildes, from Lancaster's Department of Management Science, delivered the annual Beale Lecture on 24 February, in recognition of his award in 2014 of the UK Operational Research Society’s prestigious Beale medal.

Professor Fildes' chosen topic of ‘Research in Practice’ combined two themes from his research career: the use of OR and analytical methods in practice, and secondly, how the Lancaster Centre for Forecasting has successfully worked with organisations to meet the serious challenges that collaboration between universities and organisations entails. “In theory there is no difference between theory and practice: in practice there is”.
