2017 marks 50 years since the Marketing department at Lancaster University started offering postgraduate courses.
Following a number of requests from alumni, we hosted a combined reunion event for MA Marketing alumni from the programme’s early years. This took place on Saturday 7th October 2017 at the RAC Club, Pall Mall, London.
The programme has launched the careers of some of Lancaster’s notable alumni, including Sir Antony Burgmans who gave this year’s Professor Sir Roland Smith lecture and Gian Fulgoni, co-founder of comScore and donor to Lancaster.
An enjoyable afternoon of sharing stories, career journeys and memories was spent by all. Some of the group hadn’t seen one another in 45 years and relished the opportunity to reconnect and reminisce. Alumni travelled from around the UK, Japan, Cyprus and Australia for the event.
Professor Nick Alexander, Head of the Marketing Department, hosted the occasion and brought the group up to date with current Lancaster activities and achievements. He said “It was a great opportunity to reconnect with our alumni who graduated with a Master’s degree in Marketing during the 1960s and the 1970s. It was a privilege to hear their stories about the department at that time as well as discuss recent, current and planned initiatives within the Department of Marketing. Their knowledge of the commercial world and their deep interest in the success of the department created a valuable forum to exchange views and ideas.”
The 1977 group meet up every five years and they had the largest representation from a single year. We look forward to seeing them again in 2022!
We love to hear about Lancaster alumni reunions, large or small, so if you have a get-together with former classmates please contact the Alumni Office and share your story.
