Six speakers working across a wide range of divisions covered 4 main topics: Equity Capital Markets, Deals and Restructuring, Consulting and Sales & Trading. The event was a great success; various students, alumni and staff members were in attendance, with the speakers providing students with detailed insights into the world of financial services.

Their first speaker was Ian Morgan (BSc Finance, 2007), Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He started his career at Jaguar Range Rover and continued his path at PwC in the area of Business Recovery Services. Ian highlighted the business models and structures of different deals and provided us with valuable example case studies and advice on how to prepare for the PwC application process.

Kimon Mikroulis (BSc Finance and Economics, 2013), Senior Research Analyst at Boston Consulting Group shared his experience of securing a graduate job through a summer internship and doing a part-time Master’s alongside his work. He also stressed the importance of being open to different opportunities and being involved in different extra-curricular activities whilst at university.

Damian Harniess (BA Politics with International Relations, 2003), talked about his unusual career path wherein he set out to be a Secondary School teacher and wound up as an Equity Capital Market Analyst at Jefferies. He also highlighted the need for tenacity and endurance to succeed in the financial world.

Ryosuke Suzuki (BSc Finance, 2001) gave a very engaging talk about his career as an Interest Rates Trading Director at HSBC. Ryo explained what fixed income trading is and how the division contributes to the bank. He also shared his views on how the Banking Industry has changed since he started. 

Caio Natividade (BSc Finance, 2002), Quantitative Research Director at Deutsche Bank, talked about how quantitative research contributes to the firm and ties in with other divisions. He also shared his mindset of coming up with trading ideas and strategies. Caio also did resume critiques for students during the day and gave very useful feedback. 

Paul McCormick who is a Financial Graduate Recruitment Specialist offered a very insightful speech covering the Financial Market Career Landscape, CVs, Covering Letters and Interviews. His talk detailed successful traits for interviews and key tips when creating an outstanding application for a job opportunity in the financial services sector.
