Professor Michael West gave an insightful presentation on teamwork at this year's annual Careers Connect event.
Enthusiastic alumni and placement students overcame travel disruptions caused by a London Underground strike to attend this year’s annual Careers Connect event in London, organised by LUMS’ Careers, Alumni and Employer Relations team.
The event took place at The Work Foundation on 29 April and focused on the development of effective team working, a key skill for successful career development. The event brought together a mix of LUMS students currently on placement in London, recent graduates at the start of their careers, and more experienced alumni.
The highlight of the evening was an insightful presentation on teamwork given by Professor Michael West of LUMS’ Centre for Performance Led HR. Professor West’s presentation drew on his renowned research on the NHS and yielded lively discussion in the audience, as well as provoking lots of questions.
The evening also provided the opportunity for attendees to participate in a ‘Succeeding at Interviews’ workshop led by (LUMS Placements and Internships Manager), a key element of which involved looking at the increasing use of strength-based interviews and how to tackle these.
Mark Diggle (Head of Careers at Lancaster University) also spoke at the event, giving an overview of the employment climate for new graduates in his insights about the ‘Future of Employment’.
The event ended with an opportunity for attendees to network and to review the evening’s discussions.
Rory said: “These events are a wonderful opportunity for members of the LUMS community in London to continue their professional development through learning from senior members of staff from the University and engaging with fellow students and alumni.”
