Accounting and Finance undergraduates have been putting their business skills into practice in a series of business simulation games aimed at developing employability skills.

In the Edumundo Business Simulations, the first and second year students experienced the challenges of running a company in a competitive sector. During the live, web-based simulation, students play the role of the senior management team and each round they develop strategies and revise them in light of changing market conditions, applying the technical knowledge acquired on their course modules. The games were part of the department's compulsory employability skills modules.

Team Tiger emerged victorious in the First Year competition, while Team Alpha won the second year contest.

After learning that they had won, Tiwat Sanglee from Team Tiger said: “It’s pretty great. We didn’t expect it."

The team chose their name because they wanted something which would embody the spirit of an extreme sports brand. “We wanted something nice and slick,” he explained.

After the competition, Maarten Hol, Operations Manager of Edumundo, gave students a talk on non-verbal communication, covering aspects of what to wear to interviews and how to use positive body language.

Competition organiser Dr Sayjda Talib said: “The simulation is a fun, engaging and informative way of students gaining a valuable insight into the real-world corporate decision-making environment. Students have thoroughly enjoyed managing their own company and competing with their peers.”
