Dr Andrew William Hawkins CBAM

Dr Andrew Hawkins lives in Lancashire with his wife Kim. They have two grown-up daughters and a grandson.

Dr Hawkins retired from Microsoft Corporation after a twenty-nine-year career. He was part of Microsoft’s Worldwide Government Division. Most recently, he was a Senior Director tasked with leading the European, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Government business. Previously, he was the General Manager for Microsoft’s Worldwide Public Safety and National Security business and based at the company’s corporate headquarters in Redmond, Washington State, USA. Prior to this, he held various management and specialist roles in EMEA and initially in the UK.

He is comfortable working at ministerial, senior civil servant, and chief technology officer levels within government. He has sat on the boards of numerous government and industry bodies and associations. He has extensive government affairs and geopolitical expertise having lived in the UK, France and the USA and worked in over 60 countries across Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Australasia. In addition, he has been involved in impactful programmes with the European Union, Interpol, FEMA, and the United Nations Humanitarian Aid Agencies.

He has partnered with Academia since 2004. During this time, he completed a part-time PhD in Marketing at Lancaster University, supported multiple master’s courses, mentored over 200 international students involved in excess of 50 multi-month projects and delivered countless lectures to master’s cohorts at Lancaster, Leeds and Manchester Universities. In 2022, he was awarded a Companionship by the British Academy of Management for his contribution to management thinking, research and helping so many students.

Since his retirement he has provided board-level advice to a number of international SME’s and start-ups. He is currently working with the GoPro Group in Reykjavik, Iceland. Outside of work, he is writing a book, renovating furniture, fly fishing, walking Rollo the dog in the Ribble Valley and spending as much time as possible with his family. He continues to search for the elusive Trout!
