It’s about that time! The time you’ve been waiting over the last couple of months. Finally, you are a step closer to achieving your dreams. Trust me, I know that feeling and permit me to say a hearty congratulations!

Appreciate time at home

Now, I know there are so many things happening all at once. But first, I would say, take a deep breath and enjoy the last few days before you leave. If you are an international student, enjoy these last couple of days with your family and friends because you most likely will not be seeing them for some time and trust me you will miss them a whole lot.

Arrive for Welcome Week

Make sure you arrive on campus ready for the start of Welcome Week if possible. I say this because this gives you time to settle in and know the city a bit. Ideally, I would advise arriving during the moving-in weekend (which this year is Saturday 30 September to Sunday 1 October.) This would enable you to get your SIM card, open a bank account, register for your NI (if you plan to do part-time jobs), and settle into your room, the campus and the city before you get into the groove of welcome events. This also helps you focus solely on Welcome Week events. Honestly, I would say actively participate in welcome events because it will help you quickly build a community and settle into the system and appreciate Lancaster.

Plan some sightseeing

You have a packed next couple of weeks and months ahead. I would advise that you try to plan a visit to fun places like Lancaster Castle, Williamson Park, and the Lake District to give your mind a fresh start for the work ahead. You may not already know, but from personal experience, the Michaelmas (first) term is the most intense term of the MSc Finance programme because you would have lectures almost every day and regular assessments.

These tips, I believe would help you start on the right foot. As you commence this new phase, I wish you a rewarding experience in your academic sojourn at LUMS.
