Strategic Plan
Lancaster University Management School's 2030 Strategic Plan builds on our collective achievements in realising our vision to be a leading research-led management school known for developing leaders for global impact.
Our strategy for 2030 sets out our vision, mission, values and strategic objectives. It will be our framework for guiding decision-making and implementing plans.
Since the inception of our last vision in 2020, we have recorded many successes:
- We were ranked first for research power among all UK business and management schools in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework exercise. This reflects our research quality's breadth and depth. We were also given a 100% rating for our research environment, one of only three institutions in the UK to achieve this.
- In 2021, we achieved Athena Swan Bronze, a testimony of our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- The inspirational teaching and support we provide to our students is evidenced by our contribution to Lancaster University’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold standard in 2023.
- LUMS was shortlisted for the Times Higher Business School of the Year Awards in 2023, based upon the impact of our Entrepreneurs in Residence programme.
- Our tailored programmes have equipped North West SMEs to confront the challenges they have encountered in the wake of Covid and other challenges. Our academics have served as advisors to government, offering guidance at home and abroad.
LUMS will build on this success with our commitment to excellence. We aspire to be a top-five ranked management school in the UK, and to be internationally recognised.
At the heart of our success lies our identity as a civically minded research-intensive management school. The relentless pursuit of research excellence underpins our engagement initiatives and teaching, infusing the classroom with practical and contemporary business knowledge.
Our commitment to responsible management is embedded in our strategic objectives – from research to teaching and operational practices. We prioritise interdisciplinary research within our three pillars of expertise; sustainability in business, social justice at work and in our economy, and innovation in place, as well as in our developing themes of the cyber economy, and health futures.
Through our strategy, we strive to deliver on our overarching responsibility to serve our community, both locally and globally. We believe it is our duty to offer the expertise, support, and guidance necessary for our students, businesses, and society to navigate the contemporary Grand Challenges we collectively face.
