This research workshop will bring family business researchers and practitioners together for a multi-disciplinary conversation about the direction of travel for family business research in the UK.

Building on the successful event held last year at the Business School (formerly Cass), the IFB Research Foundation and Centre for Family Business at Lancaster University Management School are collaborating to host a research workshop bring family business researchers and practitioners together for a multi-disciplinary conversation about the direction of travel for family business research in the UK.

Two main themes will run through the conversation: the social and community impact of family businesses, and the research implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. This research workshop hosts researchers and family business practitioners to share their current research and to explore avenues for future family business research in the UK context. The event will take place online (MS Teams) and will have a workshop format enabling researchers and family business owners to come together to share their experiences and insights.

The event will cover the following central themes and questions:

  • The challenges presented by COVID-19 for family firms in the UK and the implications for family business research in the UK.
  • The social impact of family firms – what are the main currents in social research on family businesses?
  • How can researchers and academics better engage family businesses in our research activities to achieve more impact?
  • The research priorities and future plans of the IFB Research Foundation.

We will also include in the programme an online open space where you can share your own research priorities, plans and ideas with colleagues.

We look forward to you joining us in February.
