MSc Operational Research Class of 1984 Reunited

MSc Operational Research Class of 1984

Graduates Ian and Polly McKay, together with Tim and Mary Barker organised a meet up for the MSc Operational Research class of 83 to 84 who all came to Lancaster for a 40th anniversary reunion on the weekend of 20th-22nd September 2024. They managed to make contact with about 20 of the original 31 in the cohort, and 15 of them were able to join in, including two couples who met on the course, and four spouses. One came all the way from Nigeria with his wife! Those who had arrived on Saturday morning had a walk round campus and were met by Graham Rand and Dave Worthington from the OR Department, who chatted with them about their memories, what they had done since, how the course has changed and showed them around the new Management School. They all sat down to a beautifully presented meal on Saturday evening, at the Araya Thai restaurant in Lancaster. Other activities included gathering in the Gallico Lounge (based in Lancaster), a walk in the Forest of Bowland, a walk around the city, a trip to Morecambe, and finding the places in which they had lived – or at least the buildings that had replaced them in the meantime. They hope to track down others in due course, and to meet up again now they are back in touch!

Polly commented "We are very grateful for the assistance of the Alumni Office, and to Graham and Dave for giving up their Saturday morning to meet us. We shared many happy memories of our year at Lancaster, and enjoyed being together just as we had 40 years ago".
