Vicky Ward
Country of origin: United Kingdom
Placement: LEGO
Vicky worked as a LEGO Club Intern during her placement year in Slough.
My role prominently involved working within the operations team for LEGO Club. LEGO Club produces children’s magazines in 13 countries worldwide and this magazine is sent out to just under 5 million children, free of charge.
Within the operations team, I was in charge of data uploads, producing and maintaining global schedules which were key to the production of the magazine, as well as managing the relationship between LEGO and some of our external stakeholders. Additionally, I was responsible for the relationship between consumer services in LEGO and the LEGO Club team. Another key role which I had, in the second half of my placement, was negotiating and working on a postal agreement for all of our European Club countries.
I also had the opportunity within the Operations team to recreate our internal LEGO Club SharePoint site – a key part of the Club team's work. This was transformed from a place to just store documents, to a site that team members actually enjoyed being able to use. Further to this, I did a lot of work on the UK magazine, editing and amending stories as well as working on the global LEGO Club website, producing and publishing articles and discovering content to share with Club members.
One of the highlights of my placement was going to Copenhagen for our annual global meeting, in which all Club employees were involved. Not only was I given the opportunity to attend the meeting, but I actually organised it, choosing the location, hotel, assisting with the agenda and also organising activities in the evenings. These activities included a Carlsberg tour and a trip over to Sweden.
