MSc Human Resource Management, from Britain
Why did you choose to study at LUMS?
I chose to study at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) for my postgraduate degree because I really liked the support I got at undergraduate, where I studied BA Hons Management andOrganisation (2012-2016). The lecturers were very helpful and the course was very interesting and it birthed by initial passion for Human Resource Management (HRM), which made me want to study it further as a Masters. Moreover, as a course representative in my undergraduate for LUMS, I felt that my voice as a student was valued, which is also why I choose to study at LUMS for my postgraduate degree. LUMS also have their own dedicated career team who provide a host of career advice, personal development and networking opportunities, so I could not imagine myself in any other university and faculty.
Why did you choose your particular programme?
After doing a placement in Human Resource (HR) for 10 months with EDF Energy as part of my undergraduate, I decided that HR was the career path I wanted to go down but believed I needed more knowledge on the topic so decided to pursue a Masters in it. Moreover, the MSc Human Resource Management degree is level 7 accredited CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development), which is the professional qualification for human resource professionals. Thus, the opportunity to not only have an MSc degree from a business school that is in the top 1% in the world, but to also be CIPD level 7 accredited, is further what drew me to my particular programme.
What are you enjoying most about your programme?
I really enjoy the smaller numbers on the programme in comparison to class sizes in undergraduate. On my programme everyone is very friendly and open to help each other with essay questions and I know I can turn to my peers if ever I need. The lecturers on my programme are also very knowledgeable in their field of work and this comes across when they are teaching. The genuine enthusiasm and passion that the lecturers show for a particular topic allows you to engage in the subject and makes the modules enjoyable to study.
Tell us about your best Lancaster moment so far.
One of my best Lancaster moments so far involves being one of the founding members of an informal Christian fellowship called ‘3:16’ which is a way for people from all walks of life to read and have an understanding of the Bible and discuss diverse topics from a biblical perspective. Also being part of the Lancaster University Hip Hop and Breakdance Society enables me to never lose my passion for dance. I am also forever grateful to Lancaster for the opportunity to be Vice President of the African and Caribbean Society (ACS), which helped to strengthen my communication, teamwork, planning and network skills and thrusted me into the arena of leadership from the beginning stages of my university life.
What are your plans after graduating from LUMS?
After graduating I plan to get a graduate job in Human Resource Management rotating in the different functions of the business.
