Thomas Castleman

Country of origin: United Kingdom

Placement: JTC Group

Thomas completed a year-long placement as an assistant administrator for JTC Group in Jersey.

JTC Group is a multi-jurisdictional, independent, provider of trust, corporate and fund services. My role in the company was to provide administrative assistance to a variety of different businesses and trusts from throughout the world. Predominantly I worked in Private Client Services, which provides a catered service to clients and their trusts, businesses or both.

Working for a trust company brings with it a diverse array of possibilities as there are a variety of clients with different needs, requirements and wishes which provides an assortment of work. The ever-changing day-to-day tasks prevent employment from becoming tedious and repetitive, and this opportunity to partake in constant differentiation can only be seen as a positive in my opinion. I also spent time working with the company’s growing Marine & Aviation department which gave an insight into the company’s range of services.

A personal highlight on my placement came when the company became principal sponsors of a football club on the island. I was given the opportunity to become directly involved with the running of the club, whilst also attending and contributing to board meetings, the club strategy and furthermore designing the club’s new website.

It also gave me the opportunity to see other parts of the business such as Marketing and Business Development and gave me an insight into the 'bigger picture' of the organisation. This also gave me the chance to work closely with the CEO and Founder of JTC Group, which was an ideal situation as a Management and Entrepreneurship student to witness firsthand how a globally successful entrepreneur operates.
