MSc International Business & Strategy, from Germany

Why did you choose to study at LUMS?

After my undergraduate degree in International Business at Tuebingen University (Germany), I wanted to gain deeper insight into corporate and business strategy. During my search for the best university to pursue my Masters degree, I quickly came across LUMS due to its leading role in the field of strategy. In addition to the prospect of studying at a triple-accredited, world-ranked management school, the campus environment, excellent careers support, and great facilities such as the sports centre contributed significantly to my decision to apply for the programme.

Why did you choose your particular programme?

After working in the strategy and business development department at Daimler AG, I decided to further expand my knowledge in the field of strategy. What motivates me is the opportunity to work in a future-oriented position that challenges me to step out of my comfort zone. I like working with complex sets of quantitative and qualitative data in order to derive business decisions. The MSc in International Business & Strategy equips me with the necessary tools for up-to-date strategic thinking, building perfectly on my BSc in International Business.

What are you enjoying most about your programme?

Apart from the practice-oriented approach to teaching strategy, I enjoy the informal atmosphere between academic staff and students. We are encouraged to share our experiences and perceptions in class and critically evaluate the module content, which ultimately changes my thinking and understanding of global economic events. This is reinforced by discussions with my classmates from different backgrounds.

Tell us about your best Lancaster moment so far.

I particularly enjoyed the team building day in the Lake District during our welcome week. The various activities helped us build a strong team spirit and intercultural awareness within the course. Accordingly, I had to challenge some of my previous beliefs and thinking patterns, especially throughout the first term. My best moments in Lancaster have been those in which I realised that my studies have affected my personal and professional development in a positive way.

What are your plans after graduating from LUMS?

After my graduation, I would like to work for a car manufacturer in a cross-functional position related to corporate or business strategy. Alternatively, I can see myself as a consultant specialised in the automotive sector. The global network of LUMS alumni and the careers service have provided me with useful support in terms of possible employers and locations.
