Placement: Atlantic Geomatics

After completing two years studying at Lancaster University, I was eager to gain valuable experience in the working environment.   I realised a placement year would allow me to develop my skills and increase my employability at the end of my studies.

My role at Atlantic Geomatics varied on a daily basis, offering new challenges and achievements.  In my first few months with the company, my responsibilities included the rebrand of the business, with a new logo and website.  The company also was experiencing a new and innovative project, which is the first of its kind across the UK.  My responsibilities included designing and coordinating marketing materials, exhibition stands and organising events across the county for this unique venture. 

My placement year has not only increased my knowledge and skills within the business environment, it has also allowed me to develop an understanding of my career opportunities and to expand my network of industry connections.  The company has offered me guidance and support throughout my year and I feel more confident of achieving my full potential as a business woman.

As I hope to continue within the sector in the future, my year with Atlantic Geomatics has helped me become more innovative, imaginative and creative.  Overall, the various tasks and challenges has helped me to progress in marketing and as an individual.   Not only has this opportunity given me the chance to improve my CV, it has also given me an opening to apply for a future position within the same company. 

The LUMS team have helped me throughout my year with Atlantic Geomatics.  My 6 month progress meeting with Louise Briggs, Head of Careers, Alumni and Employee Relations, was a valuable experience.  She met with both my line manager and myself to discuss my job role, achievements and to resolve any issues.  I greatly appreciate the teams help throughout, they have allowed my year to be a positive, exciting and worry-free experience.
