Elinor Brewer
Country of origin: United Kingdom
Placement: Johnson & Johnson
Elinor worked for Johnson & Johnson in Maidenhead during her placement year.
I worked within Marketing as part of the Neutrogena Brand team across the UK and Northern Europe. It is difficult to say what my role was on a day-to-day basis as no two days were ever the same! My ongoing responsibilities included tracking and market analysis as well as managing the budget for the whole of the Northern European Cluster.
A few of my favourite projects are highlighted below.
PR campaigns: I was heavily involved in working with our public relations agency on several of our campaigns and had the opportunity to brief and manage my own PR campaign six months in.
Website and mobile site development: I tracked the progress of each of the websites and worked closely with the media agency and digital team to look at ways to improve them. I then became responsible for search engine optimisation for the whole of Northern Europe. In my placement year I was given the chance to create a Neutrogena Mobile site, I was given the amazing opportunity to design the mobile site based on learning I gained from working on the website. I then briefed this in to be developed, and the website went live just before I finished my placement.
International advertising campaigns: Due to working across several countries I had massive exposure to a variety of advertising campaigns. I was involved in all parts of the process, from insight generation to copy development, visual adaptions to being responsible for the final voice-overs in the UK, Sweden and Finland!
Artwork harmonisation: In another of my projects I was in charge of changing the packaging of 15 of artworks to create Northern-Europe-specific products. This involved liaising with everyone from local brand managers, to supply chain, finance, artwork agencies and the factories producing them. This project made a difference to the organisation on both an efficiency and financial level and I felt privileged to have led something with such significant business impact.
These are just a few of the many exciting and worthwhile things I was given the chance to work on throughout my time at J&J. I always felt like a valued member of the team, and as well as an abundance of opportunity I also received a great deal of training and one-to-one development.
