MSc International Business & Strategy, from Malaysia

Why did you choose to study at LUMS?

I came to know about LUMS since my undergraduate – BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance, was a collaboration programme between LUMS and Sunway University Business School (SUBS) in Malaysia. Choosing LUMS over other universities is mainly due to its consistently strong academic record and the great variety of postgraduate courses that are being offered.Furthermore, LUMS has a strong team of academic staff to deliver high quality of knowledge, enhancing the students’ employability.

Why did you choose your particular programme?

Upon completing my internship and entering the final year of my undergraduate degree, I discovered I have greater interests in consulting, strategizing and corporate development. In addition, I didn’t really keen in any careers related to accounting, audit or even taxation. I am grateful that the 3-month internship in the Advisory Department of KPMG Kuala Lumpur and the BCG case study & networking event had led me in realizing my work preference. Therefore, after researching into postgraduate courses available at LUMS, I decided to apply for my current course as I yearn to further equip myself in this highly competitive job market and to learn viewing the businesses from an international/multinational perspective.

What are you enjoying most about your programme?

As my course name says, my class is truly “international”. The challenging aspect of the programme is that I have to be critical with my thoughts, challenge my peers and being challenged by them. Moreover, the programme is designed to allow the students to first learn the theoretical part, then apply this knowledge to assignments and case studies (the practical part). Notably, the lecturers for MSc IB&S are experienced and willing to help the students with doubts, enhancing the learning curves.

Tell us about your best Lancaster moment so far.

There is not any best day or worst day being in Lancaster. Every day, I have different challenges and tasks awaiting. Think positive and embrace challenges would make every day good.

What are your plans after graduating from LUMS?

After finishing my master degree, it would be great if I can get a job either in the UK or any other countries, so I would need to apply soon. This is because I would like to gain experience of working internationally, grasp valuable working practices and life in other countries. As I mentioned previously, I am interested in the consulting or corporate development area, so I am planning to join an MNE or SME that would reward me with the greatest learning curve. Probably after 5 years, I would go back to Malaysia to help with my parents’ business.
