Country of origin: Hong Kong

Arinjoy Dhar, based in Hong Kong, works for a leading global bank and is currently overseeing the execution of a strategic global programme. He is currently studying on the MSc Leadership Practice and Responsibility.

I have been working in the financial services industry for 23 years and had the opportunity to work in different geographical locations. I have worked in various different roles that include front and back office operations, branch management, risk management, project and programme management etc.

I always wanted to learn new things and skills and my passion for that took me to places and to take new challenges. I am grateful to my organisation for providing such unique opportunities.

What attracted you to the MSc in Leadership Practice and Responsibility?

I thought it was a very unique programme that offers leadership from a practice and responsibility point of view, which is very relevant and important in today’s context. The global nature of the programme provides flexibility.  In addition, the course has unique and very rich industry-linked content and students get proactive support from teachers and academic staff.

It also offered me the opportunity to assess and develop my own leadership style.

What are you hoping to gain from the programme?

I hope to obtain different perspectives from peers in the programme, who come from various different backgrounds and cultures, and to assess and develop my own leadership style.

How are you finding the programme so far?

It has been a great journey so far and I could not be happier that I got myself enrolled onto this programme. I have been able to compare organisational and leadership practices between various organisations and this was quite eye opening and I have been able to apply a few in my day-to-day job.

The online platform has been excellent. All the study material and lectures are saved in the Moodle which students can access from anywhere in the world at their own pace.

Discussion sessions were run through WebEx sessions, which have been good also in terms of discussions and engagements.

It is indeed quite interesting to see how it helps people who are working around the globe and travelling on business to stay connected and get their learning going through technology.
