LUCC's Director of Engagement Andrew Chubb presented his new research on international law and the South China Sea dispute at the University of Oxford China Centre on 18 June.
Hosted by Professor Todd Hall, the talk titled "International Law as Driver of Confrontation: UNCLOS and China’s Policy in the South China Sea," argued that intertwined with well known factors like China's material power and resource insecurity, the Law of the Sea regime has been an important, and so far generally unrecognized driver of the assertive change in China’s behaviour in maritime East Asia.
