THE TALK SYSTEM --------------- The TALK system allows interactive conversations between multiple LuBBs users at any one time. In addition to this there are 9 channels available so that you can reduce the number of people involved in a conversation. You can see the other users who are on talk by looking at the user list - a 'T' will be displayed by the users name with the channel number they are on. To join the TALKer press 'T' when you are in the LuBBS main menu. When you enter the TALKer the last 8 lines of the conversation before you entered will be displayed. This allows you to see the current topic of conversation. When you are in the TALKer, just type in text to enter anything you want to say. If you type past the end of the line, word wrap will occur to a maximum of 5 lines. Your message will be sent when you press RETURN. Below are a list of the commands you can use when you are on the any of the talk channels. Key Function --- -------- /B Blank previous text from talk. This adds 6 blank lines to the discussion so that anyone entering the TALKer will not be able to see what has been written. /C Clears the screen when you type in the next character. /E Editor help menu. Displays the commands you can use when entering a message for the TALKer. The most useful is ^N which starts a new line without completing the previous one. /F Fast page user (see help file on paging users for more details) /H Help - displays the help menu. /J Join another TALK channel. There are 9 to choose from with the default being channel 1. /M Make new channel password. When you join another channel you can password it so that only certain people can enter. You cannot password channel 1. /N Displays a list of any conferences with new messages that you have not read. /O Toggle pager off/on. /P Page a user (see help file on paging users for more details) /Q Quit talk. This will take you back to the LuBBs main menu. /R Rollback talk by a specified number of characters so that you can reread what had been previously written. /T Displays the system clock time and date as well as how much time you have left on lubbs. /U Displays a list of the users currently logged onto LuBBs. : Pose. This will display your message in the third person. So instead of '(Lubbs User) hello' you can type 'Lubbs User says hello'. /? Displays the help menu. Guidelines for Using the TALK Channel ------------------------------------- Please see the help files on General Guidelines for LuBBs Usage and Entering Messages into a Conference for additional points on acceptable behaviour when using LuBBs. In particular no swearing, not cut and pasting and not ASCII art. However, we ask that you observe the following points when using the TALK channel. Do not password a channel if there is only going to be yourself on that channel, as this may prevent other users from having a private conversation. If you do this you may be requested to remove the password from the channel or even be logged out from the system. If you just wish to sit and 'wait for pages' etc, then please use channel 1 for such purposes. Please bear in mind that you're talking to REAL people here, so don't say things to them that they might find offensive.
