SESSION LENGTHS ON LUBBS ------------------------ A session on LuBBs can last up to 90 minutes. The number of people who can use LuBBs at any one time is limited. Users are divided into two classes: Internal users are users who are logged in directly, external users are users coming in over the network. Each site (room, or whatever) now has associated with it 2 limits which specify the number of simultaneous logins from that site, the first for during office hours, and the second for outside them. If the number of current users in your room is less than the number allowed for the time of day, you will be allowed to login (possibly expiring someone logged in elsewhere), as usual. If the number of (non-expired) users in your room exactly equals the limit, you will only be allowed to login by expiring one of the people in your room. Under normal circumstances the following locations have limits: Location: Daytime Evening A7 Engineering 1 3 B48 Furness 2 4 Cartmel D31 2 3 CC Bin Room 2 - CC Well 0 2 Faraday A32 5 8 Faraday A205 2 4 Infill Lab 4 6 John Nelder Lab 0 - Library Public PC's 0 0 Library (Opac) 0 0 Pendle A13 2 3 Telnet/Rlogin's 0 2 If all the "slots" are full, and another user tries to login the person who has been on longest may be asked to logout. There is however a minimum login time of 20 minutes that you can have before this can happen. The main exceptions to this are if you are an external LuBBs user, if a moderator/witness wants to log in (in which case you will be guaranteed a minimum login time of 10 minutes before expiry) or if the SysOp wants to log in (in which case the person that has been on the longest will be expired). No logins will be allowed if the load gets too high. You may also be asked to logout for one or two other reasons, which should make themselves clear! Once you have logged out, you will not be allowed back in for three minutes if you are using LuBBs within working hours. It does not apply to weekends.
