LUBBS ACCESS LEVELS ------------------- LUBBS access levels can be split into two categories: Administration and Normal Users The admin access levels are as follows:- The SysOp: is the controller of LuBBs with complete control over all messages, able to transfer, delete or edit them as appropriate according to the LuBBs Code of Practice. The Programmer: is the person who adds new features to the code and sorts out any bugs. [Fair]Witness: basically have the same options as the SysOp but with less login privileges. Moderator: privileged users with rights below those of FairWitnesses. The main job of a Moderator is to promote useful and interesting discussion. A Moderator who starts a discussion has rights over all the messages in the discussion. This means that the Moderator's name will appear in the message headers, and the Moderator may delete any message in the discussion. Each Moderator will have responsibilities in one or more conferences. As a reward for their work, Moderators will receive benefits such as login priority during the day. Normal Users consist of :- New: As the name suggests, the user is new to the system, in that the LuBBs account has just been created but not validated as being an acceptable name by the SysOp. The next time the SysOp logs on he will either: - Validate the account, and set it to 'Messages' level, - Temporarily suspend the account because the nickname is notsuitable, or the Unix account is suspicious (group accounts etc), - Join the account to an existing LuBBs account should this be the second account for a single user, or - Ban the account because the user is not allowed to use LuBBs. If the account is suspended, the system will inform you of the reason for the suspension. The suspension will typically be left in place for about 3 days, after which the LuBBs account for that user will be deleted, allowing the user to enter a new LuBBs nickname. Should you remain as a NEW user for more than a week, then please inform the SysOp, as something will have almost certainly gone wrong with the validation procedure. Messages Level: This is the normal access level of a user. Each user has the same basic setup as any other. The user can use all the functions of the system except for the administration commands. Read-Only: This level prevents the user from entering messages to the system. Conference entry, paging and talk channels are all disabled, but the user may reply to pages sent to him. This level is applied to users who break LuBBs rules. Banned: This is not so much an access level, but any user who is banned cannot use any of the LuBBs features at all. The system will just exit without bringing up any of the LuBBs menus. Banning is usually placed on Unix accounts which have more than one user, and also for users who constantly break LuBBs ruling. Another thing to note at the present time is that a user can have his/her message limit lowered as a means of restriction. The access level is still that of messages, but the user can only enter a smaller number of messages per day.
