To document the setting-up of a Master's programme designed to be delivered part-time and by distance, and to record how this has developed over the past 20 years, members of the Language Testing Research Group undertook an oral history project interviewing those involved, including academic staff, administrators and past students. A chapter describing this work has just been published in a new volume titled Language Assessment Literacy and Competence: Research and Reflections from the Field in the Cambridge University Press series Studies in Language Testing (SiLT).

The chapter is dedicated to J. Charles Alderson and Dianne Wall, who were key figures in establishing the Master's in Language Testing programme at Lancaster University, now known internationally as offering excellent academic training for researchers and practitioners in language testing and assessment. The programme remains innovative in its online delivery and pedagogical approach, and it continues to provide access to expertise for students living and working around the world.

The volume including the chapter is available to download on the SiLT website.
