Whether you are a professional artist, amateur or a complete beginner we want to see your work!

The exhibition is open to submissions from artists of any age, who have a connection, either past or present, to Lancaster University Library to help us celebrate our 60th Anniversary.

We welcome applications from students, alumni, staff and ALL library users, especially those from Lancaster’s local community.

What can I enter?

Artists are invited to respond to the theme:

‘How does the library inspire you?’

Entries are welcomed from artists of all ages, working in any medium and discipline including drawing, painting, digital artwork, printmaking, photography, textiles and sculpture.

Artists can submit up to 2 artworks, new or existing works.

Entry is free!

Are there prizes?

Yes! We have a range of brilliant prizes on offer to winning artists over 18yrs and a young persons award for artists under 18yrs. These include:

• 1st Prize : 2 week solo exhibition at Lancaster University Library in 2025
• People’s Choice Award : Gift Voucher for Creative Tuition at Assembly Arts, Lancaster.
• Young Persons Award : £100 Jacksons Art Supplies voucher sponsored by Scratch Creative for an exceptional artist aged under 18yrs
• The Lancaster Black History Group Award - £100 Book Voucher awarded to an exceptional artist from the global majority.
• LICA Award - 1 to 1 mentoring session and tour of Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA)

How do I apply?

It’s easy and entry is free! Simply follow the 3 steps below:

1. Email apply@libraryopencall.co.uk with your full name, age and a brief description of your connection to Lancaster University Library.

2. Include the title, dimension(s) and medium of your submitted artwork(s) (max 2) in your email.

3. Attach up to 2 good quality photos of your artwork. Make sure your image file name includes your full name and the title of your artwork.
