Extreme Flood Events: Forecasting, Modelling & Response

This residential NERC Advanced Training Short Course is focused on advanced modelling techniques for flood risk management & response.

The course, designed for PhD students, postdocs, MSc students and other early career researchers, is taught by experts in flood risk management, including representatives from JBA Consulting and Lancaster University.

Course content

  • Hydrological and meteorological forecasting methods
  • Concepts / processes involved in flow forecasting
  • Commercially available models for real time flood forecasting / warning systems
  • Concepts of variability, uncertainty and accuracy in short term forecasting
  • Longer term climate prediction
  • Concepts and principles of uncertainty
