Top Ten in Geography & Environmental Science

Lancaster University is ranked 8th in the UK and top in the North West for Geography & Environmental Science in the Complete University Guide 2020.
The subjects, which include human, social and physical geography as well as environmental science, performed particularly well for the employment prospects of graduates, with 88% of students in graduate level employment or further study six months after graduating. Lancaster University was ranked 3rd in the country for graduate prospects.
The University as a whole rose one place to rank seventh out of 131 universities in the UK, its highest ever national ranking in this table, solidifying its status as a top ten university and the North West’s leading higher education institution.
Eighteen other subjects at the University were ranked in the top ten, with Biological Sciences just missing out at number 11, in the Guide, which was published on Wednesday 1 May 2019.
Professor Philip Barker, director of the Lancaster Environment Centre, said: “We are delighted to have our position as one of the very best places to study recognised by this ranking. Most important is the exceptional score for graduate prospects, as this reflects both the quality of staff and also of our students, who are taking their learning experiences beyond Lancaster to make a difference in the world.”
Lancaster University Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark E. Smith said: “It is wonderful to see Lancaster University’s quality reflected time and time again with top ten positions in all the major UK league tables. The University continues to build on a solid platform of success, which is entirely down to the commitment, excellence and hard work of our staff and students.
“We have always known that Lancaster had something very special to offer – a rare combination of commitment to internationally excellent research without compromising on the very best in teaching standards and outcomes for our graduates.”
