The QS World University Rankings by Subject is the world’s most consulted university league table, naming the world’s best universities for the study of 51 academic disciplines.

Lancaster is ranked joint 82^nd for Environmental Sciences in the latest subject tables, published this week. Lancaster is also ranked in the world’s top 150 universities for studying Geography.

The subject tables cover 1543 of the best universities worldwide, evaluating the reputation of each institution and subject through global surveys of academics and employers and by research citations.

Lancaster Environment Centre Director Professor Phil Barker said, "Global issues require global solutions and international collaboration, which lead to action and recognition. Lancaster Environment Centre is proud to be regarded as a leading institution tackling environmental challenges alongside the very best in the world."

Lancaster University has dozens of subjects included in the prestigious listings, and is also ranked 132^nd out of more than 1,000 universities in the QS World University Rankings 2022.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Schofield said he was delighted with Lancaster University’s position in the subject league tables.

“With one of the best Linguistics departments in the world through to our Environmental Sciences, our Sociology, our expertise in Statistics and Operational Research and many other subjects, Lancaster’s position within the global top one hundred is more evident with each successive year.

“I am particularly proud of the way Lancaster is able to draw on our outstanding disciplinary expertise to create a truly interdisciplinary approach to tackling some of the most challenging research questions with our creative staff and students, resulting in positive engagement and impact."

Lancaster has already been ranked =122^nd in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, up from 136^th in 2021 making Lancaster 15^th out of the 101 UK universities included in the table.
