Discover how climate change past, present and future will affect life in Morecambe Bay and the Lune Estuary, including hands-on activities and a guided walk exploring the changing landscape and what it means for the people, plants and birds that call this place home.
Based at Lancaster Maritime Museum on the historic quayside of the River Lune, these activities will explore the local impacts of global climate changes.
Families are very welcome! For safety, children and vulnerable adults must be accompanied at all times.
Hands-on Activities - 10:00am to 3:30pm
Experts from Lancaster University and UKCEH Lancaster will lead interactive activities looking at the future of our coastline, flooding, plants and wildlife. Based indoors at the fully accessible Maritime Museum, these activities will be open to all throughout the day. Tickets for the guided walk are not required to take part.
Interactive Guided Walk - 12:00 to 1:30pm
Leaving from outside the museum, the guided walk will explore the impacts of past, present and future climate change on the social, geological and natural history of the Lune and surrounding areas. Booking and weather-proof clothing and strong, ideally waterproof footwear are essential for this outdoor part of the event.
Online registration for the walk has now closed, but see the event team on site to request any unfilled places.
The hands-on activities will be accessible and inclusive, but walk ticket holders should be aware that the marsh landscape means the route will not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties. Please note there is no catering provided and the inactive walk will not pass any toilets or washing facilities.
This event is part of the COP26@ Lancaster University Festival, which aims to spark debate and showcase our leading specialists and research relating to climate change in the run-up to the United Nation’s COP26 in Glasgow. The week-long COP26@ Lancaster University Festival takes place from Wednesday 20th October to Wednesday 27th October 2021.
