The app's solution

The HIC is a building filled with endless possibilities and opportunities that businesses can take advantage of – it's a large, modern and adaptable office building with a range of amenities that businesses can utilise for work. By collaborating with third-party organisations on this project, we could offer a solution to their problem through a technological perspective.

The university has undertaken a review of our colocation spaces which has led to several recommendations to increase use of our spaces by third-party organisations. The aim is to increase levels of collaboration which will increase the amount of work that Lancaster University and third-party organisations do together, and the HIC building provides the perfect opportunity to do this.

Commercially, there has been a shift away from permanent offices to a more flexible hot desk environment. To organise and coordiante this new complex work environment, we need a booking system that will allow people to book desks, meeting rooms and other services, and a range of collaboration tools in the future.

We're currently working with the ISS innovation team to build a commercial app that will allow us to achieve this through a comprehensive booking system. Working with the ISS innovation team has also given us a raft of new ideas and possibilities which we will be developing in future versions.
