What we've been working on...
The ITPI team have been creating a new app allowing users to view and book workspaces on the Lancaster University campus.
The university provides an extensive range of workspaces in different sizes to suit every organisation's needs. Each location offers the resources to house businesses from sectors such as manufacturing, chemical, digital, environmental sciences and health. These spaces offer adaptable office spaces, fully furnished labs and flexible co-working areas, including dedicated meeting rooms with countless possibilities. For example, locations like the Health Innovation Centre even offer a lobby area that is perfectly suited for being a large event space and a business lounge where people can network. Therefore, we needed a platform for business and third party externals to book these spaces - That is the ConnectLU app.
The Problem
Lancaster University has a variety of exceptional co-working spaces in buildings like Health Innovation One, Lancaster Environmental Centre, cTAP, and much more. These spaces are used by various businesses and departments such as health services, researchers, IT experts, our team, and many more. However, the potential for networking, collaboration, and hot-desking in these spaces is underutilised due to a lack of streamlined processes for booking and managing access.
The Solution
To address these challenges, the Connect LU app was developed to automate and streamline the process of booking and managing co-working spaces on Lancaster University's campus. The goal is to make these versatile spaces accessible to a broader audience, including third-party businesses, and to foster a collaborative environment that enhances networking and innovation.

The Apps Key Features
- Booking System: Allows users to book spaces in Health Innovation One, the new ISS building, and other areas on campus.
- Pass Management: Businesses and the innovation team can assign passes, or users can purchase passes independently.
- User Profiles: Users can build profiles based on their work and interests, enhancing networking opportunities.
- News and Updates: Stay informed about the latest news and developments related to Lancaster University.
- Networking Opportunities: Facilitate connections among professionals, academics, and students working in diverse fields.
