Lancaster University's Department of History will play host to the Transatlantic Studies Association (TSA) for its annual conference between 8 and 10 July 2019.

The TSA is a broad network of scholars who use the ‘transatlantic’ as a frame of reference for their work in a variety of disciplines, including (but not limited to): history, politics and international relations, and literary studies. Its annual conference attracts scholars from all over the world and has previously taken place at the University of Ghent, the University of North Georgia, and University College Cork, amongst others.

The 2019 TSA conference will feature keynote lectures by Professor Brian Ward (Northumbria University) on ‘The Beatles in Miami, 1964: Race, Class and Gender in the Atlantic World’ and Professor Kevin Hutchings (University of Northern British Columbia) on ‘Transatlantic Romanticism and British-Indigenous Relations: 1800-1850’. It will also feature a plenary roundtable session on ‘Transatlantic Relations in the Age of a Rising China’. The conference will culminate with a reception and dinner at Morecambe’s Midland Hotel.
