A morning of talks in the Lancaster Suite in Lancaster Castle about the development and researching of the new Police Museum, as well as a comparative view of a similar institution in Greater Manchester, followed by an exclusive afternoon tour of the new attraction led by curator Sabine Skae
Since the closure of the prison HMP Lancaster Castle in 2011, Lancaster’s iconic Castle has evolved into a focal point for the town’s cultural life. The re-development and opening of areas of the Castle hidden during its long history as a prison continues with the opening of a new Police Museum in the former “A” wing in July 2022. This latest attraction brings together a fascinating collection illuminating the history of policing in Lancashire, and our Study Event offers a range of perspectives on the challenges of bringing this history to life. Our speakers will look at the process of creating the new museum, and we will hear about the parallels with the Greater Manchester Police Museum and Archives. We’ll also be given an exclusive guided tour by Lancashire Police Museum curator Sabine Skae.
