Mariot Leslie will be discussing what foreign and defence policies an independent Scotland would be likely to pursue, and what the implications could be for the remaining UK.
Mariot Leslie is a former British diplomat with wide experience in Europe, Asia and multilateral diplomacy. She has been UK Permanent Representative to NATO, Ambassador to Norway, member and alternate chairman of the British Government’s Joint Intelligence Committee and FCO Director General of Defence and Intelligence.
Since her retirement she has been based in Scotland, where she was a member of the Scottish First Minister’s Standing Council on Europe in the aftermath of the Brexit referendum. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, an associate fellow of the Europe programme at Chatham House and a member of the advisory boards of the Centre for European Reform and the Royal United Services Institute.
