Black History Month event featuring Honorary Research Associate, Sofia Akel.

The Department of History and the Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS) EDI Committee is delighted to present this event as part of Black History Month with our new Honorary Research Associate, Sofia Akel.

Sofia graduated with a degree in History in 2016 and is an award-winning cultural historian, producer, creative consultant, writer, host and lecturer specialising in Black British history.

This interactive session will begin with a conversation between Sofia Akel and Emmanuel Adeyemi-Abere, an MA student in PPR, who graduated with a degree in History and Politics in 2023. The discussion will reflect on her career so far, from student campaigner, her past and current research, and her work on music videos and documentaries. Staff and students from across the university are warmly welcomed to attend and to be part of a larger discussion, with Sofia and Emmanuel.
