Welcome Week

Welcome Week – sometimes known as freshers' week – usually takes place in the week before the start of term. It includes a range of social and academic events designed to help ease you in to college and university life.

Arrivals weekend 2022

If you plan to live on campus you are invited to move in on allocated days – details of which will be sent out to you nearer the time.

Please note that, on campus, cars and personal belongings are left at the owner’s risk.

Before you arrive

  • Freshers’ Packs – will be sold via the JCR Executive. You can pick them up from the Grizedale foyer on your move-in day.
  • Bus passes - They are available from the Students' union. They usually sell them Students' Union Bus Pass webpage.
  • Make sure you have everything you need - This means the basics like bedding, kitchen equipment, clothes etc. Here is a good website that explains what you might need: What to Take to University
  • Bank account - You will need one. Also, make sure you have some money to last you until your student loan comes through.

College events and activities - Get Involved!

It can be very daunting, arriving and not knowing anyone, but remember, everyone is in the same position as you and there are so many opportunities to meet loads of new people. Get involved, take advantage of the events being laid on for you during freshers week, there is something for everyone and are a great way to make friends.

Look after yourself

With everything going on, try make sure you also take time to look after yourself, and don’t feel you have to do everything. Try to eat healthily and get plenty of sleep when you can, Welcome Week can be exhausting

If you drink alcohol, don’t drink too much, know your limits and stick to them, there are also alternative non-alcoholic events most evenings.
