There are plenty of opportunities to take a break from your studies and socialise in Graduate College, with weekly activities, and dedicated social space.
Social spaces
Our Social Hub on campus offers a selection of popular box games as well as pool, darts and table tennis (ping pong). Plenty of large tables where you can study or socialise as a group, and cosy sofa areas for informal and class gatherings. Lots of academic and non-academic books have been donated by previous students, and you are welcome to read and borrow them from the shelves in the Hub.
There is a new Postgraduate Community Kitchen - a bookable space for Postgraduates to enjoy group cooking and dining activities. Booking requests are via the online form
We also have a new study and social area for student families in the Herdwick - with books and toys for children to enjoy while parents study or socialise.
Events
The College Community Assistants organise regular events for students, which we advertise via social media and the weekly newsletter. Previous events include quiz nights, movie nights, a stress-buster evening, winter ball, Taylor Swift event, college breakfasts, and an outdoor summer party.
On the first Thursday of the month, the CCAs also host the PGR Cafe - which is a hybrid event taking place in person and via Teams. It is a valuable opportunity for PGR Students to share their research with peers, practice presentation skills, network with fellow postgraduates, and enjoy refreshments together if they are attending in person.
