President Trump's plan to introduce a “gold card” visa that would allow wealthy foreigners to buy permanent US residency will not work, argues Amalendu Misra, Professor of International Politics at Lancaster University in an article in The Conversation.

Trump has said that the $5 million dollar card would attract millions of rich investors, including Russian oligarchs, helping to boost the economy and bring down national debt. Sceptics argue that the global rich are unlikely to be queuing up for Trump’s gold cards suggesting that demand would be limited to thousands rather than the trillions boasted by the President.
