Top Ten Results for Languages in The Times and The Sunday Times 2025 Subject Rankings
Having already shown a strong presence within other major UK university league tables, the study of languages at Lancaster University has once again been positioned highly within the individual subject rankings for The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025.
French and Iberian Languages (Spanish) have both moved into 3rd position in the individual language categories. French was also awarded 3rd place for teaching quality as well as for student experience. Spanish furthermore received recognition for the research quality by placing 2nd on the table.
Situated within the School of Global Affairs and covering English-, French-, Spanish-, Chinese-, German- and Italian-speaking worlds, language learning at Lancaster University is placed within a global context and seen as a means to enhance students’ awareness and understanding of different cultures and societies. Dr Derek Hird, the Head of the School of Global Affairs, said: 'Our successful results are a great reflection of the dedication of our academic language and culture specialists who continually offer our students a high-quality education experience.'
Overall, subjects within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences performed exceptionally well and Lancaster University has moved into 12th position out of 134 UK Universities, as well as retaining the top spot in the North West.
