Beyond LEC Skills Award

The Beyond LEC Skills Award provides you with an opportunity to develop your key skills and relevant experience beyond your degree subject.

These volunteering roles and paid internship opportunities are a great way to learn more about the sector you want to work in after you graduate, whilst strengthening your CV and enhancing your employment prospects.

We have teamed up with local and national organisations and with researchers here at Lancaster to provide you with opportunities to put your skills into practice out in the field.

How the award works

  • Volunteering or Internship

    You must complete a minimum of 20 hours volunteering or a 100 hour internship, but many opportunities will allow you to work for longer. Students should not volunteer or undertake an internship for more than 4 hours per week in term time.

  • Assignment

    The Beyond LEC Skills reflective assignment is completed to help you to reflect on what you have gained through your volunteering or internship. You will be asked to identify additional skills that you may want to develop and to create an action plan for achieving this.

  • Certificate

    If you complete each aspect of the Award you will receive a certificate of completion, and the Beyond LEC Skills Award will be added to your extra-curricular achievements record.
