Every Tuesday 9.30 – 10.30am, we invite a Lancaster academic to brief us on their research. The format is a 20 minute talk followed by discussion.

Abundance: Nature in Recovery

Karen Lloyd, Writer in Residence, The Future Places Centre

Karen Lloyd will talk about the research behind her new book – and the subject of her recent PhD in Creative Writing at Lancaster – Abundance: Nature in Recovery. The research traces stories of regeneration and restoration across Europe, from the wolves that walked back into the Netherlands to the military junta that afforded protection to the Prespa Lakes wetlands in remote Northern Greece, and from ‘legal’ and ‘illegal’ beavers in Scotland to tracking bears in Romanian forests, before returning to Lloyd’s home territory of the Lake District and ideas about what the term ‘cultural landscape’ could mean in the Anthropocene. She will also talk about her new role as the Future Places Centre Writer in Residence.
