Profile

Yu Duan is a Ph.D. student at LICA. As an interdisciplinary designer and researcher, her academic and professional interests span sustainable design, production-consumption systems, and socially equitable well-being services. Her current research focuses on developing new design toolkits to systematically analyze the role of inclusive design methods in the Longevity Economy, aiming to achieve both social and economic sustainable benefits through market participation and collaborative innovation.

Before her doctoral studies, Yu earned a master's degree in Industrial Design from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. She then worked as a product designer at Philips Domestic Appliances, where she was responsible for the development of various consumer electronics and smart home appliances. During this time, she worked with the team to formulate new design innovation strategies for the brand, leading to the creation of the next-generation Product Design Language Standard (PDLS) and Experience Design Language Standard (EDLS). Additionally, she has worked with multiple circular economy enterprises to explore sustainable biomaterial film packaging and support the regenerative manufacturing of electronic waste using additive manufacturing technology.
