Professor Sten Ludvigsen

University of Oslo

Prof. Sten Ludvigsen received his PhD based on a study of learning in medical institutions. He is educated in educational sciences (education psychology) and he has specialized in research about how to use digital learning resources and the relationship between co-located and distributed settings, in the educational sector and in workplace setting. He leads the research group for Net-based learning and the research group for socio-cultural studies in education, at InterMedia Ludvigsen is supervisor for nine PhD students.

Ludvigsen has worked as visiting scholar at Learning Research and Development Center at the University of Pittsburgh (1995) and Stanford University (2001). Ludvigsen is a member of the editorial boards of two journals, the new journal ‘The International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (ijCSCL) and OUTLINES. At a national level he is chair for the national program for reforms in teacher's education with ICT.

Ludvigsen is currently leading The Faculty of Education at University of Oslo's strategy group for learning and ICT and the newly formed Research school at the University of Oslo in the field of Learning, Communication and ICT. He was program co-chair for Computer-supported collaborative learning conference the CSCL 2003.

Ludvigsen is member of the core group in the newly establish Network of Excellence in Europe, Kaleidoscope - in the field of ICT and learning. He is part of the steering group in the Virtual Doctoral School and the CSCL SIG.

InterMedia is a research center which focuses: design, communication and learning in digital environment.
