This project is a collaboration between researchers from Lancaster University, the University of Nottingham and BBC Research and Development to explore potential challenges for acceptability and adoption to the further future integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data gathering in our homes. Housed in a teardrop caravan they have created ‘a living room of the future,’ that provides a thought-provoking experience incorporating both real and fictional future products and services. Using and array internet of things objects, facial recognition, and user profiles gathered from the internet the AI voice of the living room prompts visitors to question the legibility of AI and data infused products and services and the extent of their agency in having control over them.
