Professor Michael Wheeler is an independent scholar currently writing a book on "papal agression" and Protestant England in the nineteenth century. A visiting Professor of English at the University of Southampton, he was formerly Director of Chawton House Library. Before that he was Professor of English Literature and founding Director of the Ruskin Programme and Ruskin Collection Project at Lancaster University, leading the campaign to build the Ruskin Library.
