A major tributary of the Tiber, the Aniene (or Anio) River rises from springs near Subiaco, flows past Tivoli and through the Campagna di Roma before meeting the Tiber north of Rome. The waterfalls at Tivoli (where the Aniene descends from its mountain springs) were once a major attraction of the area, but are now greatly diminished.
